The Phansad wildlife sanctuary is across the Murud and Roha talukas of Raigad, in Maharashtra, India. The area was once part of the hunting reserves of the princely state of Murud-Janjira. It was formed in 1986 with the motive of preservation of the coastal woodland ecosystems of the Western Ghats. The total area of Phansad is 6,979 hectares, which includes forest, grasslands and wetlands.
History
Phanasad Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the unique sanctuaries in India. Siddhi Nawab of Janjira State at Murud-Janjira: A defeat game is reserved, it was converted into a sanctuary on 25th February 1986 by notification of Government of Maharashtra WLP / 1085 / CR-75 / F-5 1986. The entire area is notified as a deemed reserved forest under Section 4 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927. The main part of the present sanctuary was part of the Phanasad Working Board. The Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) covers an area of 10.96 sq km around the sanctuary. Rud taluka 4 and Muhurat about 3 villages are part of the ecological zone. Today Phanasad is known for its variety of female deer, birds, deer and butterflies. The Forest Department has a distribution tent facility that gives the winds a living experience. Various activities like bird watching, harping camps, diversity sessions are organized throughout the year.

Weather / Climate
The major climate of the region is rainfall, the Konkan belt experiences high rainfall (around 2500 mm to 4500 mm) and the climate remains humid and warm. Temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius this season. Summers are hot and humid and temperatures reach 40 degrees Celsius. Winter has a relatively mild climate (about 28 degrees Celsius) and the climate is cool and dry.
Things To Do
It is an ideal vacation spot for photographers and nature lovers. Camping and trekking are additional activities supported by local authorities. A visit to the Nature Trail at Supegaon and the Nature Interpretation Center at Mazgaon is a must at Phansad. The sanctuary contains 160+ different species of birds, 31+ species of reptiles, more than 90 species of butterflies and approximately 17 species of mammals which are extremely popular among nature lovers, bird watchers, wildlife activists and wildlife photographers. It also has a variety of seasonal plants, which make it beautiful all year round.
